Dedication & Commitment

As the people of God, we can accomplish so much for His Kingdom with a little dedication and commitment. Unfortunately, these are characteristics that are sometimes lacking in churches. We are usually pretty dedicated to our secular endeavours.

We get to work early because we don't want to get fired and loose our income. We put in what ever time is needed to attend classes and study because we want to pass our exams, get our degrees and do't want our money to be wasted. We push ourselves and make sacrifices for our children and our families. We follow sports without fail, cancelling other activities to see a game.

I know what it is like to be totally dedicated to a cause and not see the level of returns hoped for. I know what it is like to work yourself till you can't work any more, in pursuit of much needed finances, only to ask yourself if it was really worth it. The money doesn't stretch as far as you thought it would, or something unexpected comes up and you have to spend it. We can dedicate a whole lot into causes and still come up short. Wouldn't you rather dedicate yourself to things that are guaranteed beyond a shadow of a doubt to reap rewards?

Jesus tells us in the Bible that if we put this level of commitment to advancing His work and His Kingdom, that all the other things which are important to us will be taken care of. It is a mistake to believe that you have to neglect God's Work in order to sustain yourself, or in order to have fun. Why seek these things from the world, when God is able and more than willing to supply them? Wouldn't you rather someone as rich, wise and powerful as God to look after your interests? I'm sure He can do a much better job that I can, and He's ready and willing to do so; All He asks is that we take care of His business, and let Him take care of ours.
